Treatment
Our physiotherapists use a range of treatment modalities.
Treatment may include any of the following:
-
Massage
Massage or soft tissue therapy can help with increased muscle tone/tension and releasing myofascial trigger points. The aims of this treatment are to reduce muscle tone, to provide an analgesic response, deactivate symptomatic trigger points and to restore optimal length of tissue.
-
Joint mobilisation
Joint mobilisation is a passive movement technique which aims to restore full and pain-free range of motion. Any joint where there is pain or stiffness can be treated with mobilisation. Mobilisation involves gently moving the joint through the full range of motion.
-
Taping
Taping and bracing are used to restrict potentially harmful movements that can cause injury to joints. An example of this is taping or bracing of an ankle to reduce the risk of it “rolling”. Our physiotherapists use high quality, industry standard taping materials and techniques.
-
Exercise prescription
Our physiotherapists prescribe individualised exercise and rehabilitation programs focusing on: muscle conditioning, neuromuscular control, functional exercise, sport-specific training, correction of biomechanical abnormalities and cardiovascular fitness.
-
Dry needling
Dry needling is an effective way to eliminate trigger points in chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Needles are inserted into these trigger points which are found in taut muscle bands.
-
Stretching
Improved flexibility attained through stretching has been linked to reduced risk of injury and muscle soreness, and increased performance. We prescribe stretching exercises to improve your ability to move joints smoothly through their full range of motion.
